Frequently Asked Questions about Business Checking

Learn more about the process of opening and establishing your Business Checking account.

How do I open a Business Checking account?

To get started, select the Request Account button on this page. You can fill out the application, and you'll be asked to upload some documents related to your identity and your business structure.

Once you submit your application, our Business Services team will contact you within two business days.

Can I transition from one Business Checking account type to another?

If you are concerned about account or transaction thresholds, you can contact our Business Services team and change your account type to take advantage of the best option for you.

What documents do I need to have available to open a Business Checking account?

During the account opening process, you will be asked to provide documents to verify your identity and your role in the business. This list includes:

  • Tax Identification Number (IRS EIN letter- SS-4)
  • Social Security Number
  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport
  • Secondary Identification for signers
  • Certified copy of the Articles of Organization or Operating Agreement
  • Trade Name Registration (for DBA only)
  • Certification and valid photo identification for Beneficial Owners

Additional documents may be required based on business type, and our team will help you determine what is needed.

Are there fees associated with exceeding the monthly free transactions limit?

Yes, fees may be imposed when you exceed the monthly transaction limit. If you are using the Possibilities Checking Account, you have the option to transition to the Partnership account, which allows a higher number of transactions each month.

Can I convert my existing consumer checking account to a Business Checking account?

The documentation required for a consumer checking account is very different from the documentation required for a Business Checking account. You will need to provide the documentation and open a new account. If you are having difficulties transitioning payments or scheduled transfers, our team can assist you and you may also use our ClickSwitch tool to make the process faster and more streamlined.

What types of transactions are included in the monthly transaction limit?

Transactions include checks processed, debit card purchases, deposits made, and ACH transactions. If you have questions about whether a transaction counts toward your free monthly transactions, our Business Services team can provide feedback/guidance.

1Possibilities Checking - Excess transaction fee applies per transaction above the monthly limit. “Combined Transactions” is the total number of deposits and withdrawals to your checking account in a month, including teller transactions, draft clearings, ACH transactions, wires, account transfers, check withdrawals, etc.
